Dear Dudes With Tumblr's

blog wars?  seriously?

The Meme Economy Has Made It To The Bigtime

Check out this bro's tumblr:
http://jonathanvingiano.tumblr.com/

the post for Dec 12, Fri

"He keeps emailing me asking me to recognize his blog or something. but MAN that’s one shittttty blog. I wonder how long until he quits blggng"
-HRO on Thememeeconomy.blogspot.com

So there we have it, Carles says this is "one shitttty blog."  Pretty harsh words from someone that 'just wants to be your friend.'  I guess he's right though.  No wonder he didn't respond to my emails [I just assumed he was busy, I mean, he has his own radio show and all].
AsianDan, HRO, Electrorash [and probably several others] have all come to the consensus that this blog blows and I think they might be onto something.  Maybe personal brands aren't meant to be blogged about.  Maybe I shouldn't treat a blogspot like a livejournal.  Maybe I should leave blogging to the cool kids.
Bummer though, I really personally enjoyed writing this stuff.
[blog suicide?]

Indiecore vs. Preppycore

Tomorrow is laundry day and that means I'm running out of things to wear.  I dug deep into my dresser and found a black Lacoste polo that I bought a several years back when I was prepppycore [catholic highschool's a bitch [stifled my creativity]].  I really haven't worn it since then but then I got a crazy idea.  I decided to wear the polo for the sake of irony; BOOM, automatic transition from preppycore to indiecore.  I mean, that's just about as authentically indiecore as it gets [indiecore kids dig irony].
Maybe I can accessorize with a bandana and rad shades like the indiecore bro pictured above just to make sure that everyone knows that I'm trying to be ironic.  Gotta keep it authentic, my personal brand is all that I've got.

I Did It

I'm gonna be completely honest with all of you [time to get vulnerable].  I took a good, long look in the mirror after I got my septum pierced.  I thought about who I was and who I want to be.  And then I thought to myself, It's all gonna be okay.
Allow me to elaborate.
I went with a couple of my besties to get the piercing done and I ended up dropping them off at their place and then coming back to my empty apartment.  I was all alone.  I had some time to think to myself about my personal brand.  In the past few years I've developed my personal brand by leaps and bounds and my septum piercing is yet another step towards authenticity.  [I'm climbing up in the hierarchy of my local scene.]
But still, I thought to myself: things were so much easier 1.5 years ago when I was indiecore.  I was able to get away with being authentically indiecore without having a piercing or a tattoo.  I guess being authentically electrocore requires more dedication.  Times are changin [and I'm just going with the flow].

So Nervous

I'm so nervous [y'all].  I'm about to get my septum pierced today.  I might get buzzed off a few PBR's before I go just to calm my nerves.  I think a septum piercing will make me so much more authentic.  I won't have to stress over emphasizing my skinny jeans and plaid shirt because people will look at my face and automatically know that I'm an alt.  I mean, a septum piercing on an altbro is the equivalent to a lower-back tattoo on a slutty broad; automatic identification.
I'm glad that it doesn't have to be permanent though.  It's kinda like a tattoo [bc it gives alt credibility] but it can be removed when I inevitably outgrow 'the scene.'  And when I have to grow up and get a job in the real world, I can just turn the ring up and it will disappear into my nose.  Gotta think ahead, kids; can't just 'live in the moment.'
But should I be worried about my the hole getting infected?  I mean, I don't know about you guys, but I have boogers in my nose and I don't want that to be a factor when it comes to infection.   What happens when I have to blow my nose?  So many worries on my mind, I should prolly just get shitfaced so I don't have to think about it [running away from your problems is always a good option].
This is gonna be fun.  I mean, I know it's gonna hurt but it will be so worth it in the end.  I think this will give me the authenticity that I've been looking for.  Wish me luck!

So Stressed

[pic of awkward dancing couple is unrelated to the content of this post]
I'm so stressed.  My Composition & Literature class at my university has chosen me to give the final speech for the last class of the semester.  In case you didn't know, that's a pretty big deal.  I think I was voted by my classmates to give the speech because they perceive me as "the creative one."  I guess it's pretty true, I mean, I am pretty artsy compared to my classmates.  I'm just having a little trouble coming up with what to say.
The class was pretty rad.  My professor was an old lady [prolly a lesbian] that didn't believe in grades.  She put all of the chairs in the classroom into a circle and we had an informal conversation about whichever [highly controversial] novel we were reading at the time.  We even took a break from novels for a week and studied [rad] poetry.  I got vulnerable with my entire class when I broke out some of my beautiful poetry during a poetry slam.  My teacher had to hold back her tears because my prose was so beautiful.
All in all, it was a pretty life-changing class.  I mean, it seemed pretty authentic.  My prof. managed to bring together all sorts of people [jocks, bros, bro-hos, etc] with class discussions and I guess that's pretty rare.  Sorta felt like I was in a John Hughes movie [like "The Breakfast Club" y'know?].  Too bad the class is over; everything has to go back to the way it was and we'll all be divided again :(
I think I might just wing the speech.  Let it all flow.  That's authentic, right?  Yeah, that's what I was thinking too [you know me so well].

VDRK At The Beach

I usually only listen to space disco mixtapes [it makes me more authentically alt] but I gave this VDRK mixtape a listen and I must admit, I'm impressed.  It's got a little disco, a little tech, a little of everything.  Most sets that try to span several genres in a few minutes fail miserably because they try to appeal to everyone [kinda like that bro from highschool that wanted to be everyone's friend but failed].  This, however, is fantastic in the sense that it doesn't try too hard.  In other words, VDRK has broken down the genre barrier [just like Barack broke the race barrier, love him].  I wish the big names in the game had the balls to throw a set like this.

Tracklist:
1. Agent Stereo - Keep on Groovin
2. Jokers on the Scene - Baggy Bottom Boys (JotS Remix)
3. Wolfgang Gartner - Wild Card
4. Deadmau5 - Ghosts and Stuff
5. DJ Rush - MF Bass (Popof Remix)
6. Twocker - Stitch (Bass Kleph Remix)
7. Nu Coalition - Born For The Nightlife (Aston Shuffle Remix)
8. Joey Chicago - After Midnight (Diizy Edit)

Silent Rave

So I'm going to a "silent rave" tonight.  If you don't know what that is, Urban Dictionary has the hook up:

Silent Rave: "Rave" or form of wild dancing party where all of the members listen to music through headphones on seperate portable music players. The players are all synchronized so everyone is hearing the same thing, but no outsiders hear anything, hence the "silent" portion of the name.
eg: The police didn't bust the silent rave down the street because nobody complained about the noise.

I'm rather psyched, let me tell you.  Most of the raves I go to end up getting busted by cops for noise violations [suburbia doesn't take too kindly to basement parties].  But not this time, no; we can't get busted if the neighbors can't hear anything.
I can't wait to have a spiritual experience with everyone there.  Sharing headphones with somebody is like sharing a piece of your soul [kinda like that time you split your iPod earbuds with that girl you liked].  Tonight, we won't have to share headphones; all of our headphones will be united as one [and that's a spiritual metaphor].  I take solidarity in the fact that I can casually glance at the cute girl across the room [that I'm afraid to talk to] and know that she's experiencing the exact same thing as me.  Gives me hope.
We often live our fractured lives in isolation; off in our own world listening to whatever is on our iPods.  Tonight, everything will change.  Tonight, I will be a part of something bigger than myself.

A Haunting On The Dance Floor

Sometimes when I'm on the dance floor, I completely lose myself.  Some might call it an 'out-of-body experience.'  It's as if I'm dancing around with my own ghost [my ghost looks exactly like me but is transparent and a shade of blue/cyan].  I just close my eyes and I'm in another world.  I have such a close spiritual connection to music that my spirit often manifests itself into the physical realm [as a ghost].  I've grown to accept that I'm more spiritually aware than most people.  Electro allows me to transcend the spiritual boundaries put up by 'the man.'
Now I totally understand why Cut Copy called their album "In Ghost Colours."  Just like them, I often feel 'So Haunted'  when 'Lights and Music' are on my mind.  If my ghost is blue/cyan, I want what colour their ghost is?  Probably a shade of green [maybe neon].

The Presets - Jizz In My Pants

I'm so upset that the Presets' new video is going viral.  It was just last week that none of my friends knew who The Presets were and now I can't turn the corner without their new vid being thrown in my face.  Now everybody thinks they're just a big joke because they sing a song about jizzing in their pants [on par with The Bloodhound Gang].  I don't even think this song is on Apocalypso; it's probably just some shitty b-side that didn't make the cut for the final record.  It's only becoming popular because Timbaland helped produce it [hate him, he's so mainstream].  And it's so pathetic that they resorted to celebrity cameos to make their vid more viral.  Didn't even know they had those sorts of connections [crafty Aussies].
My therapist says that I should be happy for their success but I dunno.  I just feel so cheated.  They were going to be on my "Top Songs of 2K8" list but now I don't even think I can put them on there anymore.  They broke the circle of trust.
I wish I would have know that they would sell out when I started listening to them in 2K5.  I'm upset [to say the least].

Justice vs. Brian Wilson

Pitchfork has informed me that Brian Wilson is tired of losing his share of the market to Justice.  And what's he doing about it?  He is firing back with a vengeance by releasing his very own tour documentary entitled "That Lucky Old Sun."  One can't help but draw parallels between Wilson's "That Lucky Old Sun" and Justice's recently released "A Cross The Universe."  Both are artsy documentaries that glorify the glamorous and crazy life of rock stars in the modern age.  I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Wilson's documentary will most likely include:
///booze
///illicit drugs
///underaged groupie sluts
///multiple arrests
///Bingo night once a week in the rec. room
[And maybe even a weekly trip to the doctor to check up on high cholesterol]

The documentary is quite a tenacious undertaking for a mere newcomer to the music biz [I only assume he's new bc I've never heard of him].  The DVD is set to be released on January 27th so make sure to mark your calenders; I know I certainly will.  I wonder if Wilson is doing a stint of DJ sets across the country to promote his DVD like Justice did to promote theirs?  Probs.

Piracy

Pardon me while I blatantly steal this from VDRK, but this track is far too brilliant to pass up.  After hearing the Classixx mix posted on FluoKids I fell in love with this track.  Then I learned that it wasn't due for release until next year and that it would probably sound significantly different.  So this bit is cut out straight from the mix.  Thanks to Kyoshi for cutting and posting.  Vocals are from Junior Senior's Jeppe and they're fantastic.  Without further ado...

Groupies

I fucked Merlin Bronques because I want to become the next 'it girl.'  I thought that if he took enough pictures of me that everybody would start to recognize me.  I told him that he was the best I ever had just so he would keep on taking my picture [it was a lie, I've had better].  After we finished, I put on his hat, tie, and glasses so everyone would know that i fucked him.  He told me I was the most beautiful girl that he'd ever photographed and that I was a 'natural.'  I think I'm gonna send a few of his shots to a modeling agency.  Anybody know which agency Cory Kennedy/Aggyness Deyn use?  Maybe I should start my own blog about how I go out every night.  So much to do, my career as an 'it girl' is about to take off!

Staying In

[pic of azn girl is not related to the content of this post]
It's Friday night and I'm staying in.  I would like to clarify that it's by choice.  Going out on Fridays just seems so desperate.  I mean, going out on week days is perfectly acceptable.  But when your entire campus goes out on Friday night, that's when you know it's mainstream.  I'm just trying to keep it authentic over here, gotta stand up for what I believe in.  Maybe I'll have a Wes Anderson movie night with my close group of alt friends that 'get' the humor.  Or maybe I'll look for vocal stems and instrumentals all night so I can be the next Girl Talk [the laptop really is an instrument].  Or maybe I'll kick it outside my dorm and harshly pass judgement on the shit show of drunk girls coming home from the frat parties [they're so immature]

Scalp Care

[Click the pic for a closer look]
Look at the picture.  Now, look closer at the picture.  JFK has some mad dandruff going on.  Check it out for yourself.  Doesn't he know never to wear black when you have a dandruff problem?  And doesn't he know he should be using Head and Shoulders?  By the looks of it he hasn't washed his hair in a few months so I guess it's unreasonable for me to hound him for not using Head and Shoulders when he doesn't use shampoo at all.  But seriously, he needs to get that scalp under control; his shoulder looks like it was lightly dusted with powdered sugar (or cocaine).  I hope AL P is leaning in to clue in JFK about his dandruff problem.
